NFL Trade Rumors 2015: Will the Minnesota Vikings Move Adrian Peterson? Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals In the Mix
The Minnesota Vikings are still reportedly open to trading Adrian Peterson before the start of the 2015 NFL season and reports revealed at least six teams have expressed interest in acquiring the veteran running back.
According to the Pioneer Press, the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals are among teams who are in the mix to acquire Peterson, who is reportedly looking to be dealt because of his strained relationship with the Vikings.
The Vikings are looking to trade Peterson, but if they fail to get what they are looking for by next week, they will likely keep the eight-year veteran, who did not participate in the team's offseason workout program on Monday.
Peterson only played in one game last season after he was placed on commissioner's exempt list in September after pleading no contest to misdemeanor reckless injury for using switch to discipline his son in May last year.
Peterson, the 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player, admitted earlier this year that it will be uneasy for him to return to the team after last season's tension with the Vikings. The 30-year-old reportedly wanted to be released, but the Vikings reiterated that they have no plans to waive Peterson, who still has three years left in his contract.
The Cowboys have long been linked to Peterson with reports suggesting team owner Jerry Jones wants the Texas native to finish his career in his home state. The Cowboys are also reportedly eyeing Peterson to take the place vacated by running back DeMarco Murray, who signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year.
The Cardinals are also being mentioned as a potential landing spot, especially after Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said last month that acquiring Peterson will be a game-changer for any team in the league.
"Obviously, he's an MVP-caliber player," Fitzgerald said of Peterson. "Everybody knows that. Any team he ends up with -- or if he stays with the Vikings -- is going to have a great back. If he was to come play here, it would obviously mean a tremendous amount for our ballclub."
Aside from the Cowboys and Cardinals, a source close to the situation also revealed the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also in the running to acquire Peterson. The Oakland Raiders were previously mentioned as another potential landing spot for Peterson.
