‘X-Files’ Reboot Cast News & Spoilers: Mitch Pileggi Confirms He Will Reprise Role of Skinner
For those who have already heard from "X-Files" series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, you might also be pleased to know that Skinner will be returning to the reboot, played by series original Mitch Pileggi, according to Fox411.
Pileggi, who has recently appeared on "Dallas," "Sons of Anarchy" and "Grey's Anatomy," announced that he would be back on his Twitter page Monday. Skinner was Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully's (Anderson) boss throughout the entire series and the two movies that spawned from it.
He wasn't just their boss though.
The two main characters saw him as an important ally in their work and he was often portrayed as their friend, backing them up in critical moments and supporting their work as needed. Although, just like with any boss, he also acted as their nemesis in a few key episodes, possibly just to keep the bureaucracy at bay.
Skinner not only appeared in all nine seasons of the original series and the two movies, but he also appeared in the short-lived spinoff series "The Lone Gunmen," which was about the nerdy "Barney Fife-Like" conspiracy theorists and computer hacker characters that helped Mulder and Scully from time-to-time.
But this upcoming limited-run of new "X-Files" episodes is no spin-off. They are from the actual series and do not appear in "The Lone Gunmen," although the opposite holds true.
In an interview featured in The New York Times, Duchovny shared a few thoughts in regards to the upcoming reboot.
"The good things are working with Chris and Gillian again, and getting to do this show again and see what we've got," Duchovny said. "I'm as curious as anybody else. I'm amazed that there's still an appetite for it and I'm touched. I think the frame of the show is so expansive and so unique and so influential, that it should feel present."
