Paris Hilton took to Instagram on Tuesday, April 21, to announce the death of her chihuahua Tinkerbell, TMZ reports.

Tinkerbell was 14 years old in human years, which is about 72 years in dog years.

Hilton posted a photo of herself cradling Tinkerbell and captioned it with a loving message dedicated to the her beloved canine, who she describes as the first dog of reality television.

"My heart is broken. I am so sad & devastated. After 14 amazing years together my baby Tinkerbell has passed away of old age," Hilton wrote on Instagram. "I feel like I've lost a member of my family. She was such a special & incredible soul. We went through so much together."

After posting the initial photo of Tinkerbell, Hilton announced her decision to spend the rest of the day posting photos of herself and Tinkerbell to honor her memory.

Hilton posted photos of Tinkerbell's "SNL" appearance, her "The Simple Life" appearance, and her GUESS photoshoot. The heiress-DJ later thanked her fans for their condolences and loving messages of support.

"It's really helping me through this very sad & painful time," she wrote. "It feels good to know that Tinkerbell was loved by all &touched the lives of so many."

TMZ reports that Hilton first purchased Tinkerbell in 2002 from an online breeding company after being inspired to get a pup from the film "Legally Blonde."

Tinkerbell later appeared on Hilton's reality show "The Simple Life," where she starred alongside Nicole Richie.

Later in 2004, Tinkebell was abducted by burglars who invaded Hilton's home. At the time of the abduction, Hilton offered a $5,000 reward but, six days later, Tinkerbell reappeared and Hilton never offered an explanation for how her canine companion resurfaced.

The death of Tinkerbell follows Hilton's recent appearance at Coachella with her sister, Nicky Hilton.

The two sisters celebrated Coachella in white outfits in honor of National Siblings Day.
