'Empire' Star Taraji P. Henson to Pen, Release Memoir in 2016
"Empire" leading lady Taraji P. Henson is the process of penning her own memoir.
According to USA Today, the woman now making headlines as Cookie Lyon has inked a deal with 37 INK/Atria Publishing Group calling for a mid-2016 book release.
Publishers told the newspaper the book will chronicle almost everything from Henson's life, ranging from her time growing up as a child in the "rough-and-tumble" area of Washington, D.C. to the challenges of raising a son as a single mom to trying to find her place in Hollywood.
"I know Taraji Henson will bring the same magnetism and dynamism to the page that she brings to the screen," publisher Dawn Davis said in a statement. She later added, "Beyond the glamour, beyond the larger-than-life persona, Taraji Henson exudes an every-woman quality that her audience, which grew with each episode of 'Empire,' can relate to."
Henson was previously nominated for a best-supporting actress Academy Award for her role alongside Brad Pitt in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." The 44-year-old "Hustle & Flow" star has also received an Emmy nomination and been awarded with a NAACP 2015 Entertainer of the Year Award from Oprah Winfrey.
"I always stress to kids to have faith in themselves -- the greatest recipe for success is self-confidence," she told USA Today.
The Fox series "Empire" also stars Terrence Howard as Lucious Lyon, Jussie Smollett as Jamal Lyon, Bryshere Gray as Hakeem Lyon, Trai Byers as Andre Lyon, Kaitlin Doubleday as Rhonda Lyon and Grace Gealey as Anika Calhoun.
According to Deadline, Henson recently accompanied series co-founder Lee Daniels on a junket to France, where the two celebrated and took part in the Paris launch of the series.
"Empire" has already been greenlighted for a second season and rumors abound such stars as Beyonce, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber could be making guest appearances.
