Christina Aguilera & Lady Gaga: How a Little Bubbly and Gaudy Fashion United the Two Divas
With a little help of champagne and tacky fashion sense vocal powerhouses Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga joined forces for a flashy duet of the latter's hit, "Do What U Want" to commemorate the star-studded season finale of The Voice."
"The platinum blond duo, clad in matching champagne lamé ensembles, put to rest any rumors of a long-rumored rivalry," E! Online reports.
"We expect this kind of futuristic fashion choice from the 'Dope' singer, but The Voice judge typically wears her shine in the form of sequins (and eye glitter), not gold lamé fabric. Did Mother Monster's team get to make the wardrobe decisions here? If so, they should have put their own celeb in the better dress..." E! Online added.
"We're not saying we approve of either of these looks. They're a combo between tacky and scary, with only the slightest bit of sexy in the mix (mostly from the 'Say Something' singers boobs). But Xtina is definitely rocking the more normal of the two designs. Outside of that crazy material, it's a simple, low-cut ballgown with a giant slit up the front; far more boring than any mini dress or black suspender situation we've seen her in all season. Naturally, the 'Applause' artist wanted to 'out weird' her in what looks like something the villain Jafar from Disney's Aladdin would wear. We could also see the robe-like pants suit working for a Star Trek movie, which is also not a compliment."
According to E! Online after the show aired, Aguilera tweeted about the 27-year-old singer, "She is such a powerhouse vocalist and I was honored to join the stage with @ladygaga tonight on #TheVoice!"
The day prior, Gaga spent some time "catching up" on the talent competition and gave her support for Aguilera's contestant, Jacquie Lee. "Beautiful girl with a beautiful voice!" she tweeted.
Aguilera in turn replied, "Wow!! Thank you for the incredible support for @jacquieleemusic." (Lee, of course, lost to Adam Levine's mentee, reggae/soul artist Tessanne Chin.)
"This is the first time we've ever met and I have to say, when I heard she wanted to collaborate I said, 'Of course! Lady Gaga!' I've been waiting to meet her," Aguilera said.
"Their duet and the comments that followed seemed to dismiss past feuding rumors between the divas,"E! Online added. "Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera have long been thought to be rivals since Gaga's career began taking off in 2008."
