La Liga Week 33 Schedule, Fixtures, Table & Stream: Real Madrid, Barcelona Look to Keep Winning Streaks Alive, First Place on the Line
Another exiting week of Spanish League soccer is here.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are once again fighting for first place in the La Liga standings down the home stretch. Atletico Madrid and Valencia have been playing great this season, but don't count on either of those clubs winning the championship this year. Once again, it will come down to Barcelona and Real Madrid for the Spanish League Championship.
Barcelona currently has the edge with their 25-3-4 record, giving them 78 points. Lionel Messi has simply been incredible this season once again for Barcelona. Messi has a team-leading 35 goals this La Liga season, and he has a league-high 16 assists. There's no doubt Messi is the best passer on the planet, but his peers have been stepping it up big time over the last month and a half.
Luis Suarez has been on fire ever since the El Clasico match back in Week 28. The 28-year-old Uruguayan forward has recorded four goals in the last five La Liga games to give him 11 this season. Suarez also has nine assists this season. To make this offense even more complete, Neymar adds another dimension with his elite dribbling skills. This South American trio has accounted for 64 goals this La Liga season.
With Claudio Bravo playing outstanding in net, there's no reason for Barcelona not to win their 23rd league title. Barcelona will take on Espanyol in the first game on Saturday. Barcelona annihilated Espanyol in Week 14, 5-1, thanks to a Messi hat trick.
As good as Barcelona is playing, Real Madrid is just two points (76) behind them in the standings. Real Madrid has rebounded beautifully since their loss to Barcelona winning their last four consecutive games. Although Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale are battling injuries, James Rodriguez and Javier Hernandez are quietly make a very loud difference. Hernandez has expressed his desire to play more minutes in the past, and it looks like he will get it.
Real Madrid will play Celta Vigo, who they defeated in Week 14. Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo had a hat trick in that game as well. Ronaldo leads all of La Liga with 39 goals, and he also has 14 assists this year. Ronaldo is climbing up the all-time La Liga scoring list, and he will most likely surpass Raul Gonzalez's franchise record for most goals in Real Madrid history.
If Real Madrid can defeat Celta Vigo, and Barcelona loses against Espanyol, Real Madrid will automatically take over first place in the standings. If Real Madrid wins, and Barcelona draws, the two powerhouses will be tied for first place with 79 points. This week promises to be an exciting one.
