Kerry Washington, NFL Husband Nnamdi Asomugha Allegedly in Couple's Therapy Over his Insecurities
After less than two years of marriage, "Scandal" star Kerry Washington and NFL husband Nnamdi Asomugha are allegedly in couple's therapy over problems largely brought on by her success.
According to Radar, a source claims the root of the still newlywed's problems can be summed up by drawing the conclusion the retired former NFL star now feels "threatened" by his wife's rise. The website adds the 33-year-old Asomugha has now been out of the limelight for several seasons and Washington's star continues to brighten in the role of Olivia Pope, a Capitol Hill "fixer" on the hit ABC series.
In recent times, the 38-year-old Washington has also starred in such flicks as Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and has twice been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In April of 2014, Time named her one of the "Most Influential People in the World."
But now, it seems Washington is as focused on saving her marriage as she is mastering any of her roles. Radar adds she recently solicited the support and marital advice of close friend Gwyneth Paltrow.
"She's urged Kerry and Nnamdi to tackle their issues head on," a source told the website. "She's hoping couples counseling can help them overcome their problems before things reach the point of no return."â
Asomugha played 13 NFL seasons, the first eight of them with the Oakland Raiders, where he posted his best season in 2006 with 50 tackles and eight interceptions. His final three seasons in Philadelphia and San Francisco, respectively, were largely huge disappointments with a combined 84 tackles and four interceptions.
Meanwhile, People reports Paltrow and Coldpaly frontman Chris Martin finalized their divorce earlier this month. The couple have two young children together.
