The highly anticipated Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets will kick off on Friday night at the Yankee Stadium.

The Mets are off to a strong start this season and they are currently getting more attention than their Big Apple rival because of their impressive performances in their first 16 games of the season.

The Mets are coming off a 6-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday to sweep their series and also extend their winning streak to 11 games - their first 11-game winning run since 1990.

A win against the Yankees on Friday night will give the Mets their best start in franchise history. They also started the 1986 season with a 13-3 record and eventually won the World Series title during that year.

Jacob deGrom, who went 2-1 with a 0.93 ERA in his first three starts this season, will look to lead the Mets to another victory. The 26-year-old is coming off an impressive performance. He tallied eight strikeouts in seven scoreless innings during their 5-4 win against the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

On the other hand, the Yankees will also try to extend their winning streak to four games. They are also on a roll, winning in six of their last seven games, including a 13-4 and 2-1 win against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Michael Pineda, who is 2-0 in three starts this season, will start for the Yankees. He allowed three runs during their 5-3 win against Tampa Bay on Sunday, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi remains impressed with Pineda and their starting pitchers this season.

"When you win six of seven, a lot of it has to do with your starting pitching," Girardi said. "They are holding teams down late into games and letting us get into the bullpen."

Alex Rodriguez, who missed the Subway Series in 2013 and 2014 due to injuries and suspension, expressed excitement over their scheduled showdown against their rival. The 39-year-old is off to an impressive start this season, batting .265 with four home runs and 11 RBIs.

"It's going to be awesome," Rodriguez said the 2015 Subway Series via CBS New York. "The Stadium should be rocking. Our fans are ready and their fans are ready, too. It's fun for the players and even more fun for the fans."

The first game of the 2015 Subway Series will start at 7:05 p.m. ET and will be shown live on YES and MLB Network. Fans can also catch the action on WEPN 1050 Radio and through online live stream via MLB.tv.
