The Calbuco volcano erupted on Wednesday for the first time in 40 years. With the eruption, ash and smoke were thrown into the air, but near the eruption was also an unidentified flying object, according to the Huffington Post.

Photos and videos show what looks like a UFO flying near the eruption before disappearing.

One of those videos was uploaded to YouTube by Ana Luisa Cid. She called it a "Luminous object near the plume, captured on 22 April 2015."

"Some believe it may be a drone or a police helicopter. What is striking, in my opinion, is that the object remained static, then vanished. Optical illusion?" she asked.

UFO researcher Marc D'Antonio believes the object that Cid recorded on video was a drone. D'Antonio previously created a UFO drone for a National Geographic special. 

When D'Antonio first saw Cid's video, he thought it could even be the work of computer-generated imagery, but after seeing more videos he changed his mind and confirmed that there was indeed an object in the sky near the eruption site.

"In at least one video of this eruption, you can see what I have identified as a definite drone," D'Antonio told The Huffington Post in an email. "It appears to be a Phantom 2 drone, based on the lighting pattern. This drone was captured by several witnesses in a video compilation of five different videos of 'the UFO.'" 

D'Antonio believes that a drone was sent up to near the eruption site to observe the ash plume.

"We are looking at a drone that is relatively high and nearby, and the drone pilot is capturing video of the ash plume," D'Antonio said.

D'Antonio's explanation seems to disprove the fact that it was a UFO, but plenty of other UFO sightings have occurred in Chile.

This past summer a UFO sighting in Chile was actually confirmed by a government agency as not being a known human-made object, the Inquistr reports.
