Thursday night's season 3 finale of The X-Factor wasn't exactly the send-off that X Factor judge Demi Lovato was expecting. Instead, the show's producers insulted her with a jab at her former alcohol addiction.

"All season long, Simon [Cowell] has complained about Demi being annoying," host Mario Lopez said. "Maybe it has something to do with what she's been drinking at the judge's desk. Let's take a look."

"The clip featured several digitally altered scenes showing Lovato consuming a mysterious green substance, which was revealed to be 'annoying juice,'" according to E! Online. "But the 21-year-old did not think the drinking joke was funny and was seen mouthing 'that was f--ked u' as the clip played."

The singer/actress responded: "Well I think that it's very, very clear, since I don't drink anymore, 'annoying juice' has become my new drink," Lovato responded. "I love it because I get to annoy Simon with it," she added as she high-fived fellow judge Paulina Rubio.

Besides the insults, the X Factor finale was also considered "a bit anticlimactic, given that everyone who watches the show or buys music on iTunes already knew Alex and Sierra were going to win," Yahoo TV points out. "However, we were treated to a bit of a surprise when Demi Lovato became visibly disgusted at a comedy video that poked fun at her ... Due to Lovato's past battles with addiction, the joke came across as insensitive, and people on Twitter definitely noticed. Luckily for Lovato, the season is over, and she can enjoy some Simon-free time."

Recently, the 21-year-old X Factor judge revealed the dark details of her drug addiction to cocaine during the culmination of her teenage years -- just two years ago, at age 19. In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, the former Disney's Camp Rock star admitted that she couldn't go 30 minutes without cocaine and even took to smuggling it on airplanes.

The former Barney & Friends star also admitted to having an alcohol problem and an eating disorder. She hit rock-bottom when she realized that showing up at an airport at 9 a.m. with a soda bottle filled with vodka wasn't normal.

"I was throwing up in the car and this was just to get on a plane to go back to LA to the sober living house that I was staying at," she said. "I had all the help in the world, but I didn't want it. When I hit that moment I was like, it's no longer fun when you're doing it alone."

As hard as it was to face the music, she realized the detrimental effects her addiction had on her life and health, saying, "that is alcoholic behavior. [It's] no longer, I'm young and rebellious and out having fun, it was, wow, I'm one of those people ... I gotta get my [act] together."

Lovato wrote her memoir Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year, and has now become a role model for her strength for overcoming her addiction as well as a philanthropist for Voto Latino, anti-bullying and mental health campaigns, among others.

According to E! Online, Lovato confirmed that she would not be returning to the singing competition series next season, saying: "I started the show being a singer and a musician, and so I'm going to go back to that. It's been really great, but I'm so excited for 2014. I'm going to dedicate it completely and entirely to music-touring and making a new album. Possibly releasing one."

The X Factor finale ended with contestants Alex & Sierra being crowned as the winners. Their win included a $1 million dollar prize and a recording contract with Sony Music. Other performers who took the stage for the last show of the season included Mary J. Blige, Pitbull and Glee's Lea Michele, along with X Factor U.K. alums Lewis and One Direction.
