Bobbi Kristina Brown Death Rumors: Bobby Brown Moves to Obtain Legal Guardianship of Daughter's $20M Fortune
Bobby Brown's recent move to gain legal guardianship over his daughter could also leave him in charge of her estimated $20 million fortune.
According to NBC affiliate 11Alive, the trust left to Bobbi Kristina Brown by mom Whitney Houston is estimated to be worth in the neighborhood of at least $20 million and is now legally administered by grandmother Cissy Houston as well as her uncle and aunt, Gary and Pat Houston.
The 46-year-old Brown is the closest living relative to the only daughter born to him and Whitney Houston, whose body was found in a Beverly Hills hotel room a little more than three years ago.
"Bobby is Krissy's father," a source told People. "He only wants what's best for her. This is not about him taking her money -- he has money of his own. This is about making sure that she will have the best care for as long as she needs."
Bobbi Kristina has remained hospitalized and largely in a medically induced coma since being found face down and unresponsive in the bathtub of a home she shared with boyfriend Nick Gordon in late January. More recently, she was transferred to a long-term care facility.
Brown recently told a concert audience his 22-year-old daughter was "awake," a contention that was quickly refuted by Cissy Houston.
In a statement, she reflected, "I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital, and while she is no longer in a medically induced coma, she has a tracheotomy, and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive. ... Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me."
Authorities have since launched a criminal probe surrounding the circumstances of what happened to Brown after doctors found several unexplained bruises on her body. TMZ has previously reported the investigation targets Gordon.
