Canon EOS 7D vs Canon EOS 70D: Which DSLR Camera is Better?
The Canon EOS 7D camera came out in 2009 with a high retail price due to its premium specifications. As years went by, newer technology was developed and in 2013, the Canon EOS 70D came out with a lower starting price than the 7D.
Even though the two cameras are four years apart, they are actually very close in specs when compared, Dan Carr Photography reports.
The 7D has dual Digic 4 processors, while the 70D has a Digic 5+ processor. The 70D's processor is definitely newer, but the speeds of the two devices are almost equal. Continuous shooting performs better on the 7D, so photographers who want to take pictures of sporting events or action shots will be better off with the 7D.
The two cameras have very similar megapixel ratings. The 7D has a 18MP sensor while the 70D has a 20.2MP sensor. The end result are very similar pictures, especially when printed out. To the naked eye, when the photos are printed out, it is almost impossible to see the difference between the two cameras.
Photographers who want to take advantage of video-shooting capabilities will be much happier with the 70D. The 70D has a swivel screen LCD that makes it easy to mount the camera on a tripod. The 7D lacks the advanced video capturing capabilities that the 70D has. The 70D has the advantage by a longshot in video-shooting.
The 70D's photo quality in low-light beats the 7D's. This is perfect for weddings and other events where lighting is poor. Since the 70D reduces noise in pictures, it is the better camera for travel. Travel photography often includes various shots of landscapes, buildings and interiors.
The 70D added WiFi capabilities for fast photo transfers from the camera to the Internet and also added a touchscreen.
When comparing the 7D and the 70D, a photographer must decide if the faster shooting capabilities of the 7D is worth going to an older camera. The 70D wins most tests and has some new features, but another variable will be the price.
The 7D can be purchased for about $1,100 from Amazon. Since the 70D is a much newer camera it will run at a higher price, at about $1,349 from Amazon.
