Jodie Sweetin News: Actress Said She is Grateful for Return to 'Full House,' Cast Started Talking to Netflix Six Months Ago
Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner on "Full House," sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss her views on the upcoming project, and she said she the spinoff "is almost too good to be true."
Sweetin will be reprising her original role, except as the grown-up sister to Candace Cameron-Bure's DJ and aunt to Candace's two sons.
"It was the hardest thing ever to keep it a secret!" Sweetin told EW. "Six months ago we took the initial meeting with Netflix, and it's been something we've been talking about for a while. To now finally be able to be in a place that it's official, it's super exciting."
Even though she had talked about it in the past, she never really knew if she would ever get an opportunity to play Stephanie again.
"For a really long time, this is something we had hopes for -- and I had gotten to a place where I was like, 'You know what? If it happens, it happens.' I had no control over it. Jeff Franklin and I had a conversation yesterday, and we realized the first time we met and talked about bringing "Full House" back as a spinoff series was like, 2007 or 2008," Sweetin said.
The series is expected to take the same lead the previous show did, but this time with women. It will host D.J.'s sister and best friend in the same house raising young kids. Candace Cameron-Bure also spoke with reporters at a red carpet event for "Dancing with the Stars" 10th anniversary.
"It's kind of like the flip of the original show. It's going to be the three women raising three boys," she said, speaking about the premise of the upcoming reboot, according to USA Today.
Although Sweeting has been smitten with the news, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been vocal about not getting told about the spinoff, singling out John Stamos. But recently, Stamos fired back on Twitter, saying, "I call bull***t RT âª@JamShowbiz JohnStamos apparently forgot to tell the âª#OlsenTwins about the âª#FullHouse reunion: âªjam.canoe.com/Television/201..."
