According to Tim Cook, Apple CEO, Apple has "some big plans" for 2014. These plans are rumored to include an iPad Pro and, of course, the bigger and badder iPhone 6.

iPad Pro/iPad Max

According to rumors, Apple will release a larger tablet in Oct. 2014.

DIGITIMES, a tech website, claims that the new iPad will be made by Quanta computer and will have either a 12.9-inch or a 13-inch panel, with the 12.9-inch screen being more likely.

"In addition to tablets, Apple is also rumored to be planning a larger size iPhone for May 2014, using a 20nm processor manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)," a DIGITIMES source said.

The tablet is also rumored to serve as a comparable substitute for Apple's 11-inch MacBook air.

Some speculators, such as Forbes, is referring to Apple's 2014 tablet as the iPad Max, while others have dubbed it the iPad Pro.

According to Wall Street Journal, the new tablet will have a resolution of 2732 by 2,048 pixels.

The iPad Max or iPad Pro is rumored to see an October 2014 release.

iPhone 6

It is likely that iPhone 6 will feature a larger screen size. In June, Reuters reported that Apple was testing 4.7- and 5.7-inch displays. The Wall Street Journal seconded this rumor in July, and in November, Bloomberg said that the iPhone would release two new phones in 2014: one with a 4.7-inch screen, and another with a 5.5-inch screen. According to Mac Rumors, a screen as large as 5.7-inches is also in the rumor mill.

It is possible that Apple will upgrade their processor for the iPhone 6, but not much is known about any new technology. According to Mac Rumors, some suggest an A8 chip with a quad-core is Apple's next move.Apple tends to launch a new iOS with the launch of its iPhones (see the release of iOS 7 with the launch of iPhone 5s and 5c). iOS 8 is rumored to have better Maps and a Siri API. Mac Rumors reports that development of the iOS 8 is still in its early stages.

DIGITIMES claims that the iPhone 6 will see a May 2014 release, but based on Apple's release history, a later fall release is more likely: The iPhone 4s was released Oct. 2011, the iPhone 5 came September 2012, the iPhone 5s and 5c were released September 2013.

"We have a lot to look forward to in 2014, including some big plans that we think customers are going to love," Cook said in a letter to Apple employees.
