Former Univision Host Rodner Figueroa's Pups Wish Fans 'Great Week' as He Returns to Work
Former Univision host Rodner Figueroa had his pups, Napoleón and Carlota, wish his fans a "great week" via Instagram on Monday and assured dog lovers that the adorable couple is living the "good life."
The Venezuelan TV presenter, who was fired from his "Sal y Pimienta" gig after he made disparaging comments about first lady Michelle Obama, has much reason to feel positive these days: Figueroa said last month he had scored a job with the I Love Venezuela Foundation, a nonprofit that helps establish charitable organizations in the South American country.
Napoleón and Carlota, meanwhile, are no strangers to the former host's loyal fans. Figueroa had taken to Twitter to declare his love for the pups -- and wish them a happy "National Dog Day" -- as early as August of last year.
That was long before the infamous March incident, in which Figueroa compared Obama to an ape on live television, Deadline Hollywood reported.
"Well, watch out, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she's from the cast of 'Planet Of The Apes,' the movie," Figueroa quipped on the air.
The host later penned a letter to the first lady apologizing for his remarks, according to Latin We.
"I want to clarify that I'm not racist and in no way was my comment directed at you, but rather the work of the (makeup) artist, which left much to be desired," Figueroa said.
His friend Carlos Calderón, meanwhile, has now taken his spot on "Sal y Pimienta" -- a decision which Figueroa said he was very happy. The Mexican TV presenter had called his predecessor immediately after receiving the offer, according to Los Angeles-based La Opinión.
"I spoke with Rodner, and I told him, 'Listen, they are proposing this (opportunity),'" he recalled. "And he told me, 'How good that they're offering it to you!' We gave each other a virtual hug, and that was the end of the cycle. I, too, have had shows that have come to the end of their cycles, and you have to understand the business, embrace it and love it."
