'X-Men' Movies Update: Hugh Jackman Says Goodbye to X-Men Character After 'Wolverine 3'
Actor Hugh Jackman posted an Instagram photo with his hands balled in fists and three knives piercing through his right hand knuckles.
"WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME. HJ," he captioned the post.
In the "X-Men" series, sharp blades pierce through Wolverine's knuckles when he gets mad or needs to protect someone. The Instagram post was a reference to him returning as Wolverine for the famous X-Men live-action series one last time.
Jackman confirmed that "Wolverine 3" would be his last time playing that role in an interview with Dr. Oz, according to ComicBook.com.
"It is my last time," he told Dr. Oz. "It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it."
"I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out," he added.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit theaters before the third "Wolverine" movie and it is not clear if he will appear in it. "Wolverine 3" is set to hit theaters in 2017.
Hugh Jackman's role has been an iconic image of the live-action "X-Men" franchise ever since he played Logan in the original movie. Wolverine was also used as a character to bring the original series together in "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Since his first post about leaving after "Wolverine 3," Jackman continues to post regular photos on his Instagram account that does not relate to the X-Men franchise.
In one update, he posted a photo while playing a piano. "Good thing you can't hear how badly I'm playing. Practice, Practice, Practice," he captioned the post.
"THIS Guy!!!! I don't even want to think about how many years ago that head shot was taken. #ThrowBackThursday," he captioned another post.
Is Jackman ready to retire from acting soon?
