Huawei SnapTo Price, Specs, Pros and Cons: Unlocked LTE Android for a Cheap Price with 5-Inch Screen
The Huawei SnapTo is an Android smartphone with LTE that can be purchased without a contract for just $180.
Huawei offers a contract-free alternative to well-known brands like LG and Samsung, according to CNet.
The SnapTo is a plain, plastic smartphone with only a 720p 5-inch display. The front-facing camera is only 2 megapixels (MP) and the phone's volume controls and lock buttons can be found on the left side. The back of the phone has a faux-leather feel and features a 5 MP camera with an LED flash.
Even though it is only a 720p display, the screen is just right for this smartphone. The display allows for 294 pixels per inch (ppi), allowing text to be easily read. If desired, the color temperature can be changed from cool blues to warm yellows.
The SnapTo is pre-loaded with Huawei's Emotion User Interface (UI), which is a customized version of Android 4.4 KitKat. This means that users will not be able to take advantage of the new updates made to Android 5.0 Lollipop, but 4.4 KitKat is still a very usable version of Android.
Huawei's custom OS is only noticeable by the way things look. There are some additional widgets added to the homescreen. Huawei also includes a phone manager that will help conserve battery by shutting down background apps, and adds some support apps and productivity tools as well; a flashlight, a calculator and an FM radio app are all pre-installed, but cannot be deleted or removed from the homescreen.
The camera is easily accessible on the SnapTo. Actually, that is how the device was named. Tap the volume down button twice while the phone is locked and it will take a photo. The camera is fired up and the picture is taken within 1.5 to 2 seconds.
The SnapTo is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1 GB of RAM. Compared to devices offering Snapdragon 800 and up processors and up to 3 GB of RAM, this processor leaves some asking for a faster processor, but this is a budget phone. GSM Arena reports that the Snapdragon 400 processor in the SnapTo runs at 1.2 GHz.
The SnapTo also fails on internal storage space with just 4 GB of space offered. Thankfully, the back of the device can be taken off and a microSD card can expand the device up to 32 GB.
The non-removable 2,200 mAh battery provided a nice 11 hours and 45 minutes of battery life during tests.
The SnapTo is a very capable, no-frills LTE enabled Android smartphone that can be purchased for just $180. It will not impress anyone with its camera or 720p screen but it still gets the job done and it does not require a contract.
