Fox is no stranger to the sci-fi TV arena with hits like "The X-Files" and the short-lived cult-classic "Firefly." But this year, the fall TV season is not just buzzing about genre shows, but more about film-based programming.

Fox isn't the only one though. ABC, CBS and NBC are picking up on the trend.

That's why it should come as no surprise that Fox has picked up a series order for their fall schedule of "Minority Report," which is based off the 2002 Steven Spielberg film, according to Forbes.

Steven Spielberg has attached his name to the project as executive producer after seeing the pilot episode. 

The series is expected to play out around the roles of three people, portrayed on-screen by Meagan Good, Wilmer Valderrama and Stark Sands. They are three pre-cogs living their lives the best way they know how in a future that occurs ten years after the end of Precrime in Washington D.C.

The characters struggle to find their roles in life and they are constantly haunted by the barrage of images for things that have not yet happened. One individual finds himself tortured to the point of endless guilt, unable to acquire the necessary amount of information to stop bad things from happening. He's always showing up too late.

In the trailer, he appears to engage with a cop who at first seems hostile toward him. As the trailer moves on, they appear to establish a working relationship that gives the series enough momentum to move ahead with serialized episodes.

Cinema Blend reports that this story picks up 10 years after the 2002 movie left off, with a new society of free pre-cogs.
