Marvel Movies: Black Widow Replaced in 'Avengers' Toy, Portrayed Badly
Black Widow is known for helping Captain America in one of the scenes where she comes out of nowhere to save the day in the "Avengers" movie. But, in the same scene on the box of a toy set, only Captain America comes with the toy, according to Polygon.
Other figures for the set are sold separately, although Black Widow is the highlight of the scene in the movie.
"With your Captain America figure racing away, somebody needs to stick around in the cockpit," the toy description reads. "Luckily, the Cycle Blast Quinjet holds up to 4 2.5-inch Avengers figures! Additional figures sold separately. Imagine your own battles as you put Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, or Iron Man behind the controls and follow Captain America into the fight!"
Although Black Widow is mentioned in the description, her image is not on the box along with Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America and Thor.
Disney is known for releasing female characters that are princesses in their merchandise. They rarely produce female heroes, according to The Mary Sue.
The company also released a toy of Iron Man on a motorcycle, which is strange because Black Widow usually rides a motorcycle while Iron Man flies.
But there are a few Black Widow toys like the Marvel super heroes LEGO set.
Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff in the "Avengers" movies, is also portrayed in a bad light along with other women in the film series, NPR reports.
When Natasha was turned into a trained assassin, she was sterilized so that she would keep her main priority on her mission. The sterilization implies that she could only be great at her job if she never gives birth. Does that mean mothers cannot be superheroes as well?
Many people, including Mark Ruffalo who plays the Hulk, have criticized Marvel for its portrayal of women in the series and for the lack of Black Widow merchandise in stores.
