Gennady Golovkin is still eyeing a title unification bout against Miguel Cotto, but the unbeaten middleweight champion reiterated that he is focused on his upcoming fight against Willie Monroe Jr.

Golovkin, who holds a perfect 32-0 record with 29 knockout victories, admitted in an interview with ESPN that his goal is to win all the titles in the middleweight division, including the World Boxing Council title, which currently belongs to Cotto.

However, the reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion also added that he is not looking past Monroe, who is expected to go all out in their scheduled showdown on Saturday at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

"I want a unification fight," Golovkin said. "But for right now my focus is on Monroe. He is a good fighter and I respect him. I think it is a good show, not just my fight."

Trainer Abel Sanchez also confirmed that the fight against Cotto is still on top of their list after the fight on Saturday. Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to the WBC middleweight title, but Sanchez admitted that they are not expecting Cotto to accept a fight against the Kazakh champion.

Cotto, who is set to defend the title against Daniel Geale on June 6 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, remains mum about his next plan, but recent reports indicated he will likely collide with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Canelo scored a third-round knockout win against James Kirkland on Saturday in Houston, Texas.

With the fight against Cotto still left hanging in the balance, Sanchez said that they will likely face either Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam or David Lemieux, who are set to face each other for the vacant International Boxing Federation middleweight title on June 20 in Montreal, Canada.

"I think the next one down would be the winner of N'Dam and Lemieux," Sanchez told ESPN. "It's a good challenge because Lemieux being the kind of puncher that he is. If N'Dam happens to beat him, we know that N'Dam has something."

Sanchez also added that Golovkin is open to facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. if the reigning pound-for-pound king decides to move up in weight in his next fight in September. According to the trainer, Golovkin is willing to go down to the light middleweight division in order to get his dream bout against Mayweather.
