'Between' Release Date, Cast & News: ‘iCarly’s’ Jennette McCurdy Will Be a Survivor of Deadly Disease in New Show [Watch]
"iCarly" star Jenette McCurdy is moving from Nickelodeon to a dramatic thriller series on Netflix called "Between."
The series is about a young Canadian lady, who is one of the lucky few that have survived a deadly disease.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is premised on the concept that a disease has ridden a town named Pretty Lake, with more than 8,000 residents, of the older generations. In this case, older is not quite that old, as those who are older than 22 have died off.
This concept has driven the town's younger society to rise up and become the new adults.
In the recently released trailer, audiences will see a more grown up side to McCurdy. In one scene, she is holding a baby while three men hold rifles around them, apparently protecting them from something unknown.
The show is said to have competing factions vying for control in the town. It is not clear whether they are youth gone wild or older kids trying to rise in the role of authority.
This show is a joint venture between Netflix and Canadian network City. It seems to generally play upon themes off survivalist-type action in a post-apocalyptical world, except the apocalypse is contained all within the town. They have been quarantined and there is no available cure. It is unknown whether the disease plays a recurring role in the series with young adults growing past the age of 22 and succumbing to the disease.
The Hollywood Reporter also reports McCurdy plays the role of Wiley Day, who is young, pregnant and scared. Her original plan was to give the baby up for adoption and get out of the town as quickly as possible. But that changed once the quarantine was put into effect.
This show will land on Canadian television on May 21 at 8 p.m. and debut stateside the same day at 9 p.m. on Netflix. Unlike so many other Netflix shows, "Between" will not be released all at once. It will premiere a new episode weekly, following City's schedule.
