"The Craft" was a 1996 film about a girl who moves to a city and attends a Catholic school. She quickly befriends three other girls who had been dabbling in black magic before her arrival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story revolves around the new girl's natural ability for black magic, but once they get in over their heads, the results can be disastrous and even fatal.

The horror movie was a Sony project then, and it is now getting a Sony reboot with up-and-coming horror director Leigh Janiak set to direct the film.

Janiak is currently known for her horror-thriller, "Honeymoon," which chilled audiences and critics to the core. She is also expected to co-write the script with fellow "Honeymoon" co-scribe Phil Graziadei. The original script was written by Andrew Fleming in the '90s.

News of Janiak's involvement in the film has come at a time when Hollywood has been under harsh scrutiny for gender equality by the American Civil Liberties Union, particularly with women directing films in the industry.

The remake will get original producer Doug Wick back on the project, and he will be joined by Lucy Fisher for the duties.

According to LA Times, prior to Janiak's directorial career started she had been working as an assistant to Kevin Misher on such films as "Mirror Mirror" and "Playing for Keeps." Other than her directorial debut feature "Honeymoon," she has also been working on directing an episode of MTV's upcoming series "Scream," which is a remake of a movie that came out the same year as the original "The Craft."

"The Craft" featured Robin Tunney in the lead role back in 1996, as well as co-stars Neve Campbell, Fairuza Balk and Rachel True. It also featured Skeet Ulrich in a role prior to the release of his and Campbell's runaway horror hit "Scream."
