Robin Roberts has officially confirmed that she is gay. Through an essay written on her Facebook page  the Good Morning America host talked about all of the triumphs she had this year. When mentioning her win against cancer she thanked all of the people that had been there for her, including her "longtime time girlfriend Amber".

"I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together," Robin wrote. Isn't that the smoothest way of dropping a big bomb that you have ever seen? She casually through it in there making readers go "aw" and then "wait a minute... she said what?!"

Apparently this comes as no great surprise, as sources close to Robin tell TMZ that people knew. Everyone in her life, both personally and professionally, knew she was gay and in a 10-year relationship with Amber Laign. The two of them met in San Francisco through mutual friends.

The GMA host just never felt the need to publically announce that she was gay. Surviving breast cancer in 2007 and Myelodysplastic  Syndrome in 2012 are way more important testaments than discussing her sexual preference, don't you think? Robin only brought up her girlfriend Amber in the essay because she wanted to acknowledge the support she gave her through her recovery.

So you see, Robin wasn't trying to "come out of the closet" because she had never been in it. However, this served as a confirmation that one of the most powerful women in America is indeed gay. She is also very happy with the person who proved to love her even through the dark times, making their relationship even stronger.

Amber Laign is a massage therapist who specializes in helping people with injuries. Sources also confirmed that Amber is devoted to Robin and has been by her side for a long time. Maybe we just didn't notice her, but if you look back at photos of Robin at different events, you will see Amber Laign hanging around.
