CW ‘Supernatural’ News: Will Stars Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki Agree to Season 12?
Since 2005, Dean and Sam Winchester have been crisscrossing the country every week hunting down demons, vampires, witches and ghosts with surprisingly good results, at least in the ratings that is.
According to an article on CarterMatt, the presumed final season, Season 11, might not be where it ends after all. The series has been wrapping up its loose ends and next week will air its season finale, but it might be a little too soon to call next season the last.
CW's head of programming, Mark Pedowitz, said strong ratings for the series would give them enough incentive to green-light a new season, only if the show's anchors are willing to return. Dean and Sam Winchester are portrayed by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively.
For Season 12 to get the official green light, the pair of series anchors will have to sign on as well, which means that if the network came out of the gate and said that they want the series to keep going, the ball would be in their court. Obviously the show is about them just as much as it is about the supernatural theme. Evidence of their involvement being vital can be traced back to the spinoff attempt with "Bloodline," which failed directly out of the gate.
Although there has been some talk about a spinoff, the show is still strongest as a whole with the original featuring Ackles and Padalecki. Even though Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard have been hired as series regulars, they would not be enough to sustain the show as a whole.
Deadline reports that Ackles and Padalecki's contracts are up this season and they must sign for another season before the CW will continue. They also report that Pedowitz is a big fan of the show and a believer that the ratings can hold.
