Undefeated world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. said that he will fight for the last time in September, and British boxer Amir Khan could be his opponent in his farewell fight.

Roger Mayweather admitted in an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio that he wants his nephew to face Manny Pacquiao in his next fight in September.

However, Pacquiao, who took a unanimous decision loss to the reigning pound-for-pound king on May 2 in Las Vegas, cannot fight again in the next nine months after undergoing surgery to fix his injured shoulder.

With Pacquiao out until next year, Roger Mayweather said that Floyd Jr. should go up against Amir Khan if he wants to give boxing fans a treat again. If Floyd Jr. asks him about fighting Khan, the 54-year-old said he will give his nephew the green light to face the Bolton, England native.

"I think it's a decent fight with him and Amir Khan, but like I said, that's a fight for him if he's not going to fight Pacquiao again," Roger Mayweather said, whose nephew holds a perfect 48-0 record. "He needs to turn to somebody like Amir Khan, and that will make a good show."

Khan, who has 30 victories with 19 knockouts and three defeats in his professional boxing career, has been lobbying for a fight against Floyd Jr. since last year. He was considered front-runner to land a bout against Mayweather in May 2014, but the unbeaten world champion opted to face Marcos Maidana.

Khan previously said that he might not be available to face Mayweather in September because of Ramadan, but the 28-year-old said in a recent interview he thinks he could make things work if he gets a shot against Floyd Jr.

"I really think it can happen. I can work around Ramadan," Khan told BBC Radio via BoxingScene. "I am spending more time in the gym before and after training camps, so when I join the camps I am halfway there. I am happy at this weight and feel comfortable. I think I can do the September fight if it happens."

The former world champion clarified, though, that he will not chase Mayweather like before because he knows the fight will come into fruition only if Floyd Jr. agrees to face him. But in order to get the attention of Mayweather, Khan knows he needs to win again in his upcoming fight against Chris Algieri on May 29 in Brooklyn, New York.
