The "Underworld" franchise will soon be adding a fifth installment and Kate Beckinsale has already signed on to the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The character Selene, which Beckinsale portrays on-screen, has been in all the "Underworld" films except "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans." Selene has been the main character the series focuses on for certain climatic anti-hero plots that lend credibility to her humanity, but only enough to keep her likeable.

In the first film, the story revolved around the dominance of vampires over Lycans (werewolves), which is quickly reversed by the end of the film. The war was fought within the vampire faction in the second installment and the third installment was a prequel to the first film, detailing how the werewolves were once mindless slaves before one rose up with the ability to change back and forth between human and Lycan. The fourth film showed how humans have caught on to the supernatural beings and hunted them to the brink of extinction, with the Lycans easily infiltrating the human world and helping mankind wipeout vampires.

That of course led us to the upcoming fifth film, of which little is known except it will focus on the newer generation of vampires and werewolves still engaged in perpetual warfare against each other.

The film will be directed by Anna Foerster, who was attached to the film before the ACLU released a scathing report on common Hollywood practices that phases out female directors. Foerster is known to do a lot of second unit work and even worked alongside Roland Emmerich as director of photography. According to Entertainment Weekly, she has also directed episodes of the Starz series "Outlander."

The movie is expected to be shot this October in Prague and Cory Goodman has written the screenplay.

According to Comic Book, Theo James ("Divergent" series) will be reprising his role from the fourth film. He will be portraying the role of David, the vampire who aligned with Selene in "Underworld: Awakening."
