It seems that every actor in the world, literally, wants to have a role in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII film slated for release in 2015. The latest actor on the audition block? Dominic Monaghan, last seen on American television screens on the hit ABC show, Lost.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Monaghan -- also known for his role in the hit Lord of the Rings films -- told his Twitter followers that he made "less than 4,000" calls to director JJ Abrams to beg for an audition for the film. Previously, at the premiere for Lone Ranger, Monaghan told Desde Hollywood that he couldn't answer whether he'd be part of the cast, while smiling. "Ask J.J. Abrams," he said. "He'll know."

So has Monaghan's campaign of terrorizing the director been successful in his landing a role? According to Yahoo! UK, it just might be. "After working with Abrams on the hit TV show 'Lost' I wouldn't say it's out of the question. But while Abrams may enjoy working with actors he's used before, casting decisions are bound to come under close scrutiny. After all, they have to get it right. Still, there's a light at the end of the tunnel for Dominic Monaghan -- He's already proved himself worthy of big screen roles in 'The Lord of the Rings' and he's certainly regarded as a solid actor amongst fans and geeks alike," writes the outlet. 

Of course, Monaghan has some steep competition in the casting department: as has been previously reported, actors such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Jack O'Connell, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are but a few of the heavyweights tied to the film. This, of course, isn't counting the return of the original cast, which includes Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams.

Thus far, though, the only confirmed character on Episode VII is... R2-D2.
