UFC News & Notes: Jon Jones Back In Training? 'Bones' Determined To Return To The Octagon
Ever since UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones was apprehended following charges of felony on a hit-and-run accident, not much has been heard from the 27-year old athlete, but the mixed martial arts superstar is reportedly aching to return to the Octagon.
The UFC has suspended Jones indefinitely due to the incident and it is unclear what's next for the fighter. In fact, his manager Malki Kawa told MMA Hour that Jones' fans might have already seen the last of him.
"It could very well be the last time we've seen Jon Jones in the Octagon," said Kawa to Ariel Helwani in a video interview. "I think Jon Jones is gonna focus on Jon Jones. I think he's gonna take the time to do whatever he's gotta do. And if it's the last time we've seen him fight, it's the last time we've seen him fight. And I'm OK with that."
Jones has already been removed from his fight against Anthony Johnson -- the main event for UFC 187 -- and replaced him with Daniel Cornier.
While his future with MMA remains unclear, it seems that Jones is determined to return to the octagon once again. Reports have come up that the 27-year-old fighter has been training hard at the gym while still out on bail.
Jackson's MMA teammate Carlos Condit confirmed to MMA Hour that the UFC Champion has indeed been working hard.
"Jon's been around the gym a little bit, which is good," revealed Condit. "I like to see him down there. It's a crazy situation that he's going to have to deal with. I think having him in gym doing what he does best, training and trying to keep that side of his life going, is a good thing."
The UFC Welterwieght Champion also said in the interview that Jones has expressed his desire to go back and fight again. He continued, "Talked to him briefly, but not about incident but about situation. He said, 'I'll be back, I'm going to be back.' I believe him, there's no doubt. I think there's a good chance. In his mind, he's fighting again."
This is the first time it was revealed that the fighter is keen on continuing in the UFC. He has remained silent after his arrest except for a post on social networking site Twitter to address fans and apologize.
Other than that, the only statement made about his career in fighting has been made by his manager. Whether Jones will return to the octagon once more will also depend on the outcome of the felony charges against him.
