"The Blacklist" Season 3 Spoilers: Same Characters but a 'Different Show'
While fans of NBC’s “The Blacklist" are still reeling from the revelations of last week’s season finale, they should not get too comfortable with any of their assumptions regarding the James Spader weekly thriller.
In a recent interview with Zap2it, Megan Boone, who plays Elizabeth Keen on the series, cautions viewers that when "The Blacklist" returns “it's going to be a very different show.”
The season ended with Liz and Reddington (James Spader) driving off together, and with a lot of dark information being revealed about Liz’s already murky past.
Boone emphasizes that: "Season 3 is going to be the same characters but a different show, a very different dynamic," due to the fact that “now Liz Keen is no longer working within the law."
Careful not to give away any specific plot lines, Boone says the task force is imploding and the structure of “The Blacklist” is going to change. Talking about the new changes to come in season 3, Boone explains that: "If you break open the entire task force, then it will be challenging to try to find the procedural aspect of the show again."
"With 22 episodes a year, it does benefit the show to have some kind of a formula ... but we are going to sort of break open a lot of the structure of the show,” she adds.
To fans and critics alike, this kind of unforeseeable future, which is forcing action in "The Blacklist" universe, might just work out well for Boone's character.
In her recap of the season finale, Jodi Walker of Entertainment Weekly writes: “As a character, Lizzie has always clicked less than Red because she tends to lack focus. Her life has been so out of whack since the moment we met her that she can barely see one step ahead. She admittedly does not know what she wants. Ever. But going into the next season, it doesn’t matter what she wants, because everyone has a map laid out in front of them.”
The new season of "The Blacklist" airs this fall on NBC.
