ABC Family is starting a new show this summer about a transgender family titled "About Us," where a teenager is struggling through his parents' divorce and his father's transition into becoming a woman.

"'Becoming Us' follows Ben, an ordinary Midwestern teenager, going through a unique situation," the ABC Family show description reads. "After his parents' recent divorce, Ben learned that his dad is transitioning into a woman, Carly. In the series' opener, '#WelcomeToMyWorld,' Ben is struggling in school, and his parents, Suzy and Carly, are not happy about it. Ben's girlfriend, Danielle, would like to introduce Carly to her father, who is also transgender, leading to an awkward shopping trip for the four of them. And Ben's sister, Sutton, returns home to Evanston to plan her upcoming wedding."

The Ryan Seacrest Productions show is a non-scripted docu-series showing the public what may go on in the transgender community, People reports.

"I want to be able to provide guidance for kids who are going through it," 17-year-old Ben tells People. "Maybe this will help them being able to deal with it."

"This story in particular is really specific and beautiful and we loved that it's from the point of view of this teen boy just trying to figure it out," said Karey Burke, ABC Family's executive VP of programming and development.

"The journey of acceptance is utterly authentic," she added. "Our network has a history and certain currency not being afraid of a show that tackle social issues, that shed light on current affairs."

Former Olympian Bruce Jenner shed light on transitioning into becoming a woman in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer and a two-part series on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

Spectators believe that Bruce Jenner will have a show on E! about his transition as well.

"About Us" is produced by Seacrest, Eugene Young, Rabih Gholam and George Moll.
