Ever since it was confirmed "Independence Day 2" was in the works, many fans of the original film have been looking forward to more details about the highly anticipated sequel. Original actress Vivica A. Fox was at the MotorCity ComicCon and she offered tidbits about the upcoming film.

Fox portrayed the role of Will Smith's girlfriend-turned-wife in the first film, and she will return in the sequel to reprise her role. However, former lead actor and love interest Will Smith will not appear in the film. The movie is scheduled to come out in theaters on the 20th anniversary of the original film, which came out in 1996.

The 50-year-old actress revealed to Mlive.com that the upcoming sequel is set 15 to 20 years after the events of the first film.

She also confirmed the actors who would be joining the cast include Jessie Usher, who will portray her son, Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman. She also revealed that Sela Ward is on board to play the president of the United States in the upcoming fim.

Shooting of the movie has begun in New Mexico, the actress confirmed as well.

While Fox has been tight-lipped about the upcoming movie, except for the appearance of aliens once again, she offered more details about her character to Blackfilm.com.

Her character, Jasmine, was a stripper in the first movie. For the new movie, however, Jasmine has left that life.

"I will not be on the pole. She was a stripper with a heart of gold, and who had said that she was doing it because the money was good. Now she's a hospital administrator and she's running the hospital, and I'm glad that they moved her character forward as a woman," Fox said.

She also confirmed that Smith, who played Captain Hiller in the original flick, has decided not to join the cast of the second movie.

However, she said that Usher "has all the wonderful qualities that will remind you of Will."

In fact, Smith gave his stamp of approval to the producers when they decided to seal the deal and cast Usher.

The plot of "Independence day 2" still remains a mystery, but director Roland Emmerich told Empire that the new movie would be a "parallel history" of the first film.

"Humans rebuild whatever they have -- bigger, newer, shinier -- and then they forget. Maybe, 20 years later, [the aliens are] never coming back," said the director. "We've created a mythology around these aliens, which is really cool. You have to create a mythology because people want to see a bigger picture."

"Independence Day 2" hits theaters on July 4, 2016.
