'Mad Max: Fury Road' Online 2015: Will Sequel Welcome Back Both Furiosa and Max to 'The Wasteland?' [WATCH]
The "Mad Max" franchise created by mastermind George Miller caught on like wildfire when it began in '79, catapulting Mel Gibson's career. Four decades later, Miller's latest installment, "Mad Max: Fury Road," starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, continues to ignite interest and a following with movie-goers in the U.S. and abroad.
Loyal "Mad Max" fans and newly acquainted fans alike are eager to know how the post-apocalyptic genre will further unfold. There have been new developments underway, and according to reports and the next sequel will be called "Mad Max: The Wasteland."
Co-writer and director George Miller, who spoke with Latin Post in an exclusive interview for "Behind the Scenes," was also recently on "The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith" (via The Playlist) podcast, where he dished on "Mad Max: Fury Road" and the possibility of some really cool sequels.
What does Miller have up his wildly inventive sleeve?
"We've got one screenplay [for the second film] and a novella [for the third]. It happened because with the delays [on 'Fury Road'], and writing all the backstories, they just expanded. [The second one] is called 'The Wasteland.' 'Mad Max: The Wasteland," he explained, according to Forbes.
Miller's creative cinematic wheels are constantly in motion, so the news that he's already in the process of developing sequels to "Fury Road" isn't shocking.
But there is a bit of a new twist comparing what "Mad Max" fans learned back in 2010 to now.
At the time, Miller reportedly said, "Two sequels were in the works -- as a result of creating backstories for the characters in Fury Road -- and that the second one would be titled 'Furiosa' after Charlize Theron's character."
"So the news here, then, is that the next film is (apparently) no longer titled 'Mad Max: Furiosa,' but will instead be titled 'Mad Max: The Wasteland," Forbes reported. "Whether or not that means it's an altogether new idea/film or the same idea/film with a new title is unclear, though one presumes there's some connection. After all, Miller's been a bit too busy making Fury Road to craft an all-new script for a followup."
What angle would you like to see further explored? Theron returning as badass Furiosa who has a solid connection with Max (Hardy) or keep it moving with his mysterious and elusive ways?
