Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Release Date US: Sony Xperia Z3, Z1s on T-Mobile OTA Upgrade Rolling Out Very Soon - Here's What You Need To Know
With Android Lollipop rollouts slowing down, there are still a few stragglers out there waiting for OTA updates from various U.S. carriers to Android 5.0, Android 5.0.2, Android 5.1, or Android 5.1.1. Here's the latest on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z1s, which is finally going to get an Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update soon from T-Mobile.
T-Mobile, which has been pretty on the ball when it comes to Android OTA rollout updates, is finally getting Android 5.0 Lollipop to two of its U.S. exclusive phones: the Sony Xperia Z1s and the Sony Xperia Z3.
As we previously reported, Sony announced its Xperia Z line was due for Android 5.0 Lollipop at the beginning of this month. Now T-Mobile, the carrier that sells Sony's blocky, waterproof mega smartphones, has announced that its version of the OTA update to Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Sony Xperia Z1s (C6916) and Xperia Z3 (D6616) will be rolling out "May 2015" (via Xperia Blog).
That announcement follows about a month or more of tracking the Sony Xperia line's progress through testing phases, manufacturer development, and T-Mobile testing. And while there's no exact release date for the OTA rollout from T-Mobile, it's likely to come in the next week if it's on track for the release window given.
Android 5.0 Lollipop, as most Android owners know by now, brings an overhaul to the Android interface with Material Design, as well as new customizations to notifications, to keep your phone from beeping and ringing when you're not interested in being contacted. Check out all of the details on Android 5.0 Lollipop's features in Latin Post's hands-on review. In addition, the Xperia Z3 will receive LTE Band 12 support packaged into the update.
When you get a notification that your Xperia handset is ready for Lollipop, make sure that you've backed up your data and apps, have more than 50 percent charge on the phone, and are on an unmetered, fast WiFi connection, because the full update tends to weigh about 1GB.
If you have a Sony Xperia Z1s or Xperia Z3 and you get Android 5.0 Lollipop on your device soon, let us know in the comments!
