Cara Delevingne Refuses to Lose Weight for Modeling Career
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, high fashion model Cara Delevingne expressed her frustrations with the modeling industry and her desire to break into acting, People reports.
Delevingne, who just landed her first lead role in the upcoming film "Paper Towns," revealed that acting had always been her passion, but people in the entertainment industry preferred her being a model.
"I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. Everyone said, 'You're just a model.' Once I had my mind set that I was going to do this modeling thing, I really wanted to beat it, if that makes sense. Win it," she revealed.
But despite her discouragement with wanting to be an actress, Delevingne named her close friend Rihanna as the person who helped her keep faith and hope alive.
Delevingne recalled the time she spoke to Rihanna about wanting to act, and the "B*tch better have my Money" singer told her, "Everything happens for a reason. You are going to call me back up in a week or two, and you are going to say to me, 'You are right.'"
Entertainment Weekly reports that in addition to "Paper Towns," Delevingne also landed an acting role in the upcoming film "Suicide Squad" and another sci-fi film starring Dane DeHaan.
Now that her acting career is booming, Delevingne finds her modeling career to be increasingly frustrating since she is constantly being critiqued about her looks.
"It's horrible living in a world where I'll get a call from someone saying, 'So and so says you were partying a lot, and you were looking this way, and you need to lose weight,'" she said about her modeling. "It makes me so angry. If you don't want to hire me, don't hire me."
Though Delevingne did not reveal whether or not she plans to quit modeling for acting, she did say in a separate interview with EW that she wants to emulate her acting career to Meryl Streep or Angelina Jolie.
"I wanna f*cking Meryl Streep it," she said. "I don't know if that's possible. We'll see."
Her second option would be Angelina Jolie because she is an "ex-party girl" like herself and is now "hardworking."
