Paul McCartney, the singer-songwriter and part of the legendary four-member band -- The Beatles" -- has bought a Manhattan penthouse for $15.5 million, reports Variety.

The New York City triplex penthouse McCartney now owns with his third wife -- Nancy Shevell, -- contains a total of five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. The estimated 3,500-square-foot triplex unit is said to be located in a post-war building.

Based from its listing, the high-end cooperative building demands buyers to drop half of the asking price. Thus, the music icon has initially paid almost $8 million to get his luxury home in the city. Variety notes that apart from the huge downpayment, McCartney would still be paying around $12,935 as maintenance fee.

The penthouse also includes a small staff room, kitchen, a foyer, a living room, and a formal dining room. The unit also has a direct access to a spacious terrace where the singer-songwriter can relax and find his next song's inspiration. The couple may also find solitude in the 33-foot-long library.

Being a triplex in a luxury building, the property is equipped with a private elevator servicing all the unit floors. Architectural details of the artist's new home are white marble-lined floors, soaring double-height ceilings, spanning glass panels and a modern stair case.

The master bedroom is huge that it contains a private sitting room, a wak-in closet and a mirror-walled bathroom. It also offers lovely park views from below and it comes with a private wrap-around terrace.

The couple's new residence is said to be near New York's famous landmarks, including Central Park, notes New York Post. Because of such floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the city's landmarks as well as the stunning cityscape are available to the owners to view to their hearts' content.

McCartney's music genius is evident from his 21 glittering Grammy trophies, which he may display in the expansive Manhattan penthouse, notes Variety.

For the younger generation who may not be familiar with McCartney's artistry, check out his performance with the Foo Fighter's frontman, Dave Grohl, in his recently held London concert on May 23, reports Rolling Stone. The two played and sang a classic song from "The Beatles" titled "I Saw Her Standing There." 

In the 2009 Grammy Awards, Grohl was able to play the same song with McCartney, but he was just the one managing the rhythm using the drum kit.
