Mariah Carey Ex Producer Damion 'Damizza' Young Calls Story About Nine-Year Affair False
Mariah Carey's former producer is denying reports he and the songbird singer once engaged in a nine-year affair that at least partly only ended because she lived so much of her life "inside a bubble."
Damion “Damizza” Young took to Twitter on Sunday to denounce a Daily Mail story detailing the reported whirlwind romance.
The news story provided a glimpse into the couple's purported times together during the late 1990s, which included jet-setting around the world together and seeing up-close-and-personal how Carey seemed to have the world wrapped around her finger.
"I was her producer, her lover, her best friend," the 40-year-old reportedly told The Mail in Sunday's piece. "She would not make a decision without talking to me first. I was very much in love with Mariah, I still am."
But by late Sunday, Young seemed to be simply trying to keep the peace.
"I got screwed. My apologies to @MariahCarey that was NOT what article was to be about and was NOT my quotes," he said on Twitter.
Young goes on to label the story a fake. Instead, he reflected on how he and Carey met in 1997 when she was going through her first divorce from music mogul Tommy Mottola. Before long, he recalls Carey soliciting his services in an effort to keep her then-floundering career afloat.
"She wanted to become relevant again and that meant working with hip-hop artists," he said. "I put her together with Jay-Z."
In time, Young and Carey would work together on such hits as "I Still Believe," "Crybaby," and "Irresistible."
According to the Daily Mail, their romance began to flicker out after Young decided her lifestyle was simply too much for him.
"Mariah lives inside a bubble," he said. "I lived inside her world for a while but I had to get out for my own sanity. The thing I remember most about being with her was the quiet and the loneliness. She didn't have many friends. For a long time I was her best friend."
