Living off the grid does not necessarily mean living without electricity.

An egg-shaped micro-home is giving people the opportunity to set up camp and live off the land with electricity furnished in the tiny enclosure, according to Engadget. 

A Slovakian company has designed these modern off-the-grid units with 600-watt solar cells and a 750-watt wind turbine that gives its users the opportunity to live off the grid and still make use of electricity.

The cells use solar and wind power to produce the electricity and it is completely self-sustainable. Using this type of alternative energy is also considered a green alternative to burning fossil fuels. Solar and wind are both renewable resources and abundant to the planet.

These self-sustainable egg units are only designed for one inhabitant. They measure 14.6 feet long and 7.4 feet wide, coupled with an 8.4-foot height. They weigh in at around 3,300 pounds. These dimensions also indicate that they may not be suitable for a tall person, but for those of average size, the capsule could be a strong alternative to modern living.

The ecocapsule also features units that collect rainwater. With such small dimensions, one could wonder if it is even livable. Well the answer to that is yes. It features a flushing toilet, shower, folding bed and dining area accompanied by a small kitchen. It even has storage space.

Nice Architects will be showing off its model of this home in Vienna this month and pre-orders for the unit will start sometime near the end of 2015.

Mirror Daily reports that the architects have made claims that these capsules will have a lot more uses than just standard dwelling. The team boasts that they can be used as research stations, emergency housing units and even improve humanitarian efforts.

It also reports that the capsule is equipped with a high-capacity battery that fills in when the dual power systems are lacking in natural resources.
