Real Madrid's last game against Getafe for the La Liga ended in a standing ovation at the Bernabeu as the team won the match with a 7-3 score against its opponents on Saturday. Two days after that, the board of directors of the Spanish club has decided to let go of Carlo Ancelotti after the team failed to bring home a major trophy.

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, made the announcement on Monday. After meeting with the directors, the president went live on a news conference to deliver the news of Ancelotti's termination.

"My appearance will be very brief, but I want to announce that the board of directors this afternoon has made the decision of releasing Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid's coach," said Perez.

He added that the decision to do so was not easy to make as the Italian coach had built good relationships with the management team as well as the players and that he "now forms part of our history because with him we won our 10th cup."

Ancelotti was instrumental in giving the club its "La Decima" win for the Champions League against Atletico Madrid in 2014. He also gave the club a Copa del Rey trophy in the same year after beating rival FC Barcelona in the finals.

Real Madrid won the Club World Cup Trophy in 2014 under Ancelotti's guidance.

But all these were naught for the board in Real Madrid as the former Paris Saint-German manager failed to bring home a major trophy this season.

Italian team Juventus defeated the Los Blancos at their Champions League semifinals match, noted BBC Sport. The team also fell two points below rival FC Barcelona, which claimed the La Liga trophy this year and is now headed to the Copa Del Rey and Champions League finals for a possible treble.

When asked where the Italian manager went remiss, Perez answered, "I don't know. The demands here at Real Madrid are very high. The affection that the players and the fans have for Carlo is the same as the affection I myself have for him."

Amcelotti took to Twitter to thank his supporters. Written in Spanish, the manager said, "I'll keep the memory of two fantastic years at the club, its fans and my players. Hala Madrid and nothing else."

Before the announcement was made, Ronaldo expressed his support for the 55-year-old manager on Instagram. He posted a photo of himself with Ancelotti after the match against Getafe, which he captioned, "Great coach and amazing person. Hope we work together next season."

It seems that the Galactico's comments were not heard as the board of directors proceeded to terminate Ancelotti.

Perez closed his announcement with the promise that a new manager will be announced next week.
