Winter Storm & Weather News Update: Coldest Wind Chill to Ever Hit US Caused by Polar Vortex
The National Weather Service gave out warnings of the coldest wind chill to ever hit US, especially the central and northern parts of the States.
According to NPR, the extreme cold temperature will be experienced through Monday and called as the Polar Vortex. The spokesman for the National Weather Service stated that this extreme level of coldness has not been observed to have happened for the last two decades. Even the Associated Press added that the cold air can even reach the farthest part of the Gold Coast.
Numerous states found within the Midwest region have reportedly suffered from a foot of brand new snow which led to schools and churches closing temporarily, Aljazeera.com stated. Meteorologist Bob Oravec mentioned that the extreme cold will not last permanent and can be expected to lessen as the week ends in a countrywide level.
ABC News mentioned several extreme forecast for several places like 15 below zero for Chicago, Indianapolis and Minneapolis. There's also minus 21 for Madison, Wisconsin and 32 below zero for Fargo, N.D. The wind chills temperature can drop up to around minus 50s or 60s.
Even the Indianapolis Mayor upgraded the travel emergency level into red alert which means it is considered illegal to drive except if it is for an emergency or for when seeking shelter. It can be recalled that this travel alert warning was last done way back during the blizzard in 1978. Reuters points that about 3,500 flights were already cancelled all around the country.
Slate wrote USA Today's report that while the eastern half of the US is in the process of recovering from the killer snow storm on Thursday that took away the lives of 16 people, here comes this extremely cold front that is threatening to potentially take more lives.
