Juan Manuel Marquez is open to facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch, but only if the terms of the fight are acceptable and will not be in favor of the reigning pound-for-pound king.

Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions recently said that Marquez wants to face Mayweather to fulfill his goal of winning five titles in as many divisions and to avenge his defeat during their first fight in September 2009.

Marquez, who took a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Mayweather, confirmed that he is open to facing the unbeaten welterweight and junior middleweight champion, but only if the conditions are fair to both parties.

"If that fight is proposed and the conditions are acceptable, then of course I would do it," Marquez said via BoxingScene.

The 41-year-old quickly added, though, that it is nearly impossible to defeat Mayweather if the fight will be held in Las Vegas. Marquez claimed that Mayweather is a protected fighter in Las Vegas.

Marquez said that the only way to beat Mayweather is by knockout, but he thinks it is nearly impossible to knock the Grand Rapids native out because he is not willing to engage in an action-packed fight against his opponent.

"We all know how things are done when fighting Mayweather in Las Vegas. In that city the officials protect him, let him do everything. Fighting him there is a burden," Marquez said. "Look, do you know how Mayweather can be beaten? Only by knockout, and how can you knock out an opponent who does not want to fight, who doesn't throw punches, and hits you with a jab and you may have won the round but they still give it to him."

Nacho Beristain, Marquez's longtime trainer, also sounded cold about the idea of a rematch between his fighter and Mayweather. The legendary trainer said that he will choose reigning International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Kell Brook instead of facing Mayweather.

"I obviously think this is the most difficult choice," Beristain said of pitting his fighter against Mayweather. "It's a difficult fight, and if given the chance to choose between Brook and Mayweather, I would choose to Brook -- who is a good fighter and a world champion."

Marquez, who holds a 56-7-1 record with 40 knockouts, has not fought since scoring a unanimous decision win over Mike Alvarado in May last year. The Mexican boxing icon said that he will fight one more time before retiring.
