Lenovo LaVie Z is a Super-Light Laptop with High Performance Specs
Lenovo found a way to pack premium features and specifications into a laptop that weighs under two pounds.
The Lenovo LaVie Z features a powerful processor, tons of RAM and plenty of internal storage space into a laptop that weighs just 1.9 pounds.
Lenovo latest offering has a 13-inch screen and unlike other ultra lightweight laptops and netbooks, it packs a premium processor. Most laptops that are this light are forced to use low-power Atom or Core M CPUs processors that are underpowered and not designed for high-performance tasks.
However, the notebook uses a top-of-the-line Intel Core i7 processor, the first time that this processor has been used in such a light laptop, CNet reports.
Buyers of the LaVie Z will also be happy to know that 8 GB of RAM be featured along with a nice-sized 256 GB solid state drive. The price of the notebook I s at a premium, costing $1,499, which is $200 more than the 12-inch MacBook.
The LaVie Z is lighter in weight at 1.9 pounds versus the MacBook at 2.04 pounds. It also offers a screen that is one inch larger than the MacBook.
The impressive internal features of the LaVie Z come with a small trade off though. The keyboard is not up to the standards of what Lenovo usually puts out in its laptops, making typing slightly more difficult than it needs to be. A small right shift key can be a little annoying. Instead of being a traditional rectangle shape, the shift key on the right side of the keyboard is a square and the same size as the letter keys.
The battery life on the laptop will not compare with MacBooks, probably due to the powerful processor. Users can expect just under eight hours of battery life on the LaVie Z, while MacBook users can expect about 12 hours of battery life. Lenovo's website claims it can receive up to nine hours of battery life, but it will depend on the user's activities.
The LaVie Z does not skimp on ports like the MacBook does. The MacBook decided to get rid of extra ports, like the USB ports, in favor of a single USB-C port. The LaVie Z keeps two USB 3.0 ports, a full-sized HDMI port and an SD card slot.
The LaVie Z packs a ton of power into an extremely light and thin laptop. The extra $200 in price over the MacBook is a little puzzling, but the standard ports is a much appreciated advantage for most laptop users.
