'Assassin's Creed Syndicate' Gameplay Update: Ubisoft Drops Multiplayer Mode In Upcoming Title
Fans of Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed" series are in for a disappointing news. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently confirmed that the upcoming "Assassin's Creed Syndicate" will no longer have a multiplayer mode unlike its previous iteration.
"This game will be single-player... You don't have a multiplayer mode on this iteration because we want to spend all our time on making sure the single-player is excellent. And it's coming along extremely well," Guillemot said during the investor call earlier in May, as quoted by Polygon.
While "Assassin's Creed Sydicate" will not feature any co-op mode, Guillemot said that they have considered it for future titles.
"We don't know and we can't say yet - er, we know, but we can't say yet about what will happen next," said the CEO.
Creative director Marc-Alexis Cote told Game Informer that the company wants to focus on single-player mode since it was instrumental in the success of "Assassin's Creed." "It's really about returning to our roots," he explained. "Returning to what made this series such a success. For us, it's truly the single-player experience, and investing in that that's going to make Assassin's Creed feel more modern and fresh for our players."
Executive producer Francois Pelland confirmed Cote's statement. He noted that the "melee fight" design of the game prompted them to focus on a single-player campaign and strengthen it.
"We felt like, especially with the type of fight that we have, a very hand-to hand, very close combat fight, that we needed to have very high responsiveness on the system," Pelland told Game Spot. "That's one thing. It's navigation as well. When we decided two years and a half ago, we said, let's do London 1868. You cannot have vehicles that are just cosmetic. You drive those things. That adds complexity to the thing. It's more technical reasons."
The previous title, "Assassin's Creed Unity," was met with mixed reviews after fans expressed disappointment with the game, reported Gamerant. Bugs and numerous technical concerns faced the developers after the video game was released.
It seems that the people at Ubisoft have taken great lengths to prevent the same backlash and opted to remove the multiplayer mode so as not to sacrifice the main single-player campaign.
"Assassin's Creed Syndicate" will hit current generation consoles on October 23 with a PC version to follow after.
