George R.R. Martin, the author whose saga, "A Song of Ice and Fire," inspired HBO's "Game of Thrones," will finish his sixth book in the series, "The Winds of Winter," before the TV show's sixth season airing debut.

Martin told Entertainment Weekly in an interview in April that he's determined to finish the book. "I wish it was out now. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," he said.

Since HBO aired the first episode of "Game of Thrones" on April 12, the book should be available around the same time or earlier, come next year. Fans of Martin should be rejoicing with this great news and more so when they get hold of the freshly-printed copies of the "Winds of Winter" novel in spring of 2016.

For him to focus on writing and finishing the book, Martin did not take part in writing the script for the Season 5 of HBO's "Game of Thrones."

Martin had to sacrifice a lot of things, and though it has been taking a while for him to finish the novel, he assured fans that it will be worth the wait, especially with the plot that he has in mind.

"This is going to drive your readers crazy, but I love it. I'm still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It's a great twist. It's easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations. Otherwise, it's just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, four characters involved... it all makes sense. But it's nothing I've ever thought of before. And it's nothing they can do in the show, because the show has already-on this particular character-made a couple decisions that will preclude it, where in my case I have not made those decisions," shared Martin.

More Cancelled Appearances?

Fans who were in the Conquest event in Kansas were extremely lucky to have Martin read excerpts of his book and sign some published works he edited. Martin, who announced the event on his online journal, was Conquest's Editor Guest of Honor.

With his commitment to finish "Winds of Winter" soon, the famous writer might have to disappoint fans for some events that are bound to be inadvertently cancelled again.

Included in his cancelled events is July'€™s San Diego-based mega-conference Comic-Con, notes Entertainment Weekly. Aside from that, his appearance on World Convention 2015, which will be held in Saratoga Springs, New York, in November has been cancelled, too, as stated on his appearances schedule, available on his website.
