Oscars 2016 Predictions: 'The Good Dinosaur' Trailer Released; Could Pixar Have two Films Nominated?
Disney has release the first teaser trailer to its upcoming Pixar film "The Good Dinosaur."
The new film is slated for a November release and questions what would of happened if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct.
The film tells the story of an Apatosaurus named Arlo who makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
The movie is the second Pixar Animation Studios film to be released this year.
With two Pixar movies in one year, it will be interesting to see which film will receive the better reviews and which movies ends up winning an Academy Award. "Inside Out" currently has the best reviews of any Pixar movie and is being hailed as one of the Best Films of the Year.
Very little is known about "The Good Dinosaur," which has been in production and development for years. However, the film received good word after Disney presented clips during a special presentation of its upcoming projects at the Cannes Film Festival.
This is the first year that the studio has ever debuted two films in one year. Pixar has generally released one film every year except for last, which the company skipped. Pixar has won numerous Oscars for "Ratatouille," "Wall-E," "The Incredibles," "Finding Nemo," "Up" and "Toy Story 3." Its most recent win was for "Brave."
Only two films the company has produced have been snubbed and those were "Cars 2" and "Monsters University." Those were also the company's latest films and they were criticized for quality. As of late, Pixar had been suffering from bad criticism as the aforementioned films and "Brave" received the worst reviews the company had ever received.
However, after "Inside Out's" impressive world premiere at Cannes and the visually stunning new teaser for "The Good Dinosaur," the company seems to have found its way back.
The question that remains is which film will be more awards-friendly and which will receive the better reviews. It will also be interesting to see which film performs better at the box office and if the later film is the one that ends up being the awards favorite.
"The Good Dinosaur" was directed by Peter Sohn, who made his directorial debut with the Pixar short film "Partly Cloudy." He has worked in the art, story and animation departments, and also has voiced the characters of Emile from Academy Award-winning "Ratatouille" and Scott "Squishy" Squibbles from "Monsters University."
The film was produced by Denise Ream, who produced the Golden Globe-nominated film "Cars 2" for Pixar Animation Studios and served as associate producer for Disney Pixar's Academy Award-winning film "Up." She also has an extensive background in producing visual effects and animation for live action films.
"The Good Dinosaur" will open nationwide on Nov. 25.
