Galaxy S6 Update & News: Samsung Provides Early Details On Upcoming Galaxy S6 Active
Samsung has uploaded the details for the Galaxy S6 Active smartphone before officially announcing the phone, Tech Radar reported Wednesday.
The Galaxy S6 Active is a smartphone very similar to the Galaxy S6, but with rugged protection and waterproof capabilities.
The full specs for the phone were displayed on Samsung's website, but as of this writing, the post has been removed. This is after a well-known leaker Evan Blass circulated press photos of the new phone on Twitter. Last month, Blass also posted leaked photos of the phone in blue and white camouflage colors.
Most of the specs of the Galaxy S6 Active were expected. The battery, however, was expected to be much larger. Most analysts expected the Galaxy S6 to be powered by an improved 3,500 mAh battery. Instead, it will be powered by the same 2,550 mAh battery that is used by the Galaxy S6.
Many potential buyers were excited by the thought of the new, rugged device having a microSD slot for expandable storage. Unfortunately, the Galaxy S6 Active did not add a microSD slot. This means that the 32 GB of included storage will not be expandable.
The Galaxy S6 Active includes a fingerprint sensor and a heart rate monitor.
Following its name, the Galaxy S6 Active includes features geared toward the active individual. The Active Zone app includes a compass, weather information, barometric pressure and S Health information. The Active features of the phone can be accessed by pressing the dedicated Active key near the top left of the device.
The Galaxy S6 Active will have a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen displaying 1440 x 2560 pixels. It will be powered by the octa-core Exynos 7420 processor and it will have 3 GB of RAM, Phone Arena reports.
Perhaps the best feature to be included in the Galaxy S6 Active is its waterproof and dust-proof capabilities. It will be able to withstand up to 30 minutes of submersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep.
The phone has not been officially announced by Samsung or AT&T, the carrier expected to offer the phone for sale, but that announcement could come very soon.
