WWDC 2015: What We Know So Far About Apple's Annual Event
Apple Inc. is already gearing for the World Wide Developers Conference, which is just right around the corner, and many are already speculating what new devices and technologies will be unveiled during the event.
Here are some of the things to expect at the annual gathering of software developers organized by the Cupertino-based firm.
Apple Inc. has always used the WWDC as a venue to announce new iOS and OS X. WWDC 2015 will be no different as the company has already announced that it will discuss "the future" of the operating system, dubbed the iOS 9 and OS X 10.11, at the annual gathering.
Because iOS has received a major aesthetic upgrade with the arrival of iOS 8, many speculate that changes and new features to the upcoming iPhone OS will focus on applications instead.
According to 9to5mac, it is almost certain that Apple will introduce the "Proactive" feature that aims to help users search the Internet and their devices more effectively, and it seems to be the company's answer to Google Now for Android. Its addition will see the end of the utilization of Spotlight Search to enable users to customize their phone usage based on the trend of their everyday activities.
An upgraded version of Maps is also expected to arrive with the iOS 9.
Meanwhile, OS X 10.11 is also expected to take the center stage at the WWDC. The upcoming OS upgrade is the second update to arrive to the system ever since it dropped the use of cats in its name and replaced it with California landmarks such as OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
The new operating system is said to provide more security to Apple devices. The new "Rootless" feature is a "kernel-level security system" that will prevent malware from getting access to protected files in the system, another report from 9to5mac explained.
Since Apple Inc. has acquired Beats Music, it is likely that a revamped music streaming service will be shown at the event as well, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources.
Another revamped feature that is reportedly making an entrance to the WWDC is the new iTunes Radio that the Tim Cook-led firm hopes to work well with the streaming service.
Unfortunately, the highly anticipated Apple TV might be absent in the event. According to the New York Times, the company has decided to pull out the set-top box hardware for TVs at the last minute because it is not yet ready.
WWDC 2015 is set in San Francisco, California from June 8 to 12.
