Garmin Vivofit 2: Activity Tracker Can Last up to a Year Without Charging
Most smartphones and smartwatches need to be charged quite regularly. While some smartwatches can go a few days without a charge, the Apple Watch requires a daily charge. The Garmin Vivofit 2 is an activity tracker that can go up to a year without a charge, CNet reports.
The Vivofit 2 is Garmin's upgrade to the Vivofit. It adds a stopwatch function, audible alerts and a backlight. The Vivofit 2 can measure the amount of steps a user takes in a day, distance traveled, calories burned and also has a sleep tracker.
The Vivofit 2 is affordable, costing just $100. The activity tracker does not have a heart rate sensor, but, for $30 more, a package with a chest strap can be purchased.
Featuring an always-on display, the Vivofit 2 is easy to view at any time. There will be no need to reach for a smartphone to see how many steps a user has taken throughout the day. It is also easy to view the time without having to press any buttons on the activity tracker.
The display does add a little bit of thickness to the band, unlike the Jawbone Up2 which is much thinner because it has no display.
There is just one button on the band. This button can be pressed to switch between the time, date and activity data. Through the Garmin mobile app, the activity data that users want displayed on the band can be customized.
There is no vibration alerts on the Vivofit 2. Other activity trackers such as the Jawbone Up2 and the Fitbit Charge allow for vibrations to be used for alerts and alarms. The first Vivofit also lacked vibration alerts.
Swimmers will be happy to know that the Vivofit 2 is water resistant up to 50 meters deep. The activity tracker can also be taken into the shower.
Customization is easy with the Vivofit 2. The bands are switchable and there are many different colors and materials to chose from.
Instead of charging the Vivofit 2, users will be able to go up to a year on two changeable CR1632 coin cell batteries. When it comes time to change the batteries, users simply unscrew the back and put in two new batteries.
Amazon is selling the Vivofit 2 for $99.99.
