During a recent interview with InStyle, Zoe Saldana revealed that her husband Marco Perego opted to take her surname when they got married. 

Saldana admitted she tried to talk Perego out of taking her surname, as she felt he would be emasculated by his peers. However, Perego wasn't fazed by potentially being emasculated and went through with the decision.

"I tried to talk him out of it," Saldana revealed. "I told him, 'If you use my name, you're going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.' But Marco looks up at me and says, 'Ah, Zoe, I don't give a s**t.'"

Since tying the knot with her husband and giving birth to twins, Saldana says she finally feels completely comfortable with him and feels that they were meant for each other, according to E! News.

"Since I've been with Marco, I've been lowering my guard. Finally when we had our boys I looked at my husband and I realized: I was meant for you and you were meant for me," she explained.

She added, "I've always felt comfortable around men as long as they were friends. Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover. I don't want to be separate."

Saldana revealed that in past relationships she felt as though her independence and headstrong personality often got in the way of her forming successful and long lasting relationships with other people she's dated. 

Now that she is a mother and wife, she feels more comfortable letting her guard down and compromising.

In addition to talking about her marriage to Perego, Saldana also responded to critics that have slammed her for playing the role of Nina Simone in an upcoming biopic, E! News reports.

"I didn't think I was right for the part, and I know a lot of people will agree, but then again, I don't think Elizabeth Taylor was right for Cleopatra either," Saldana confessed.

She continued, "An artist is colorless, genderless. ... It's more complex than just 'Oh, you chose the Halle Berry look-alike to play a dark, strikingly beautiful, iconic black woman.' The truth is, they chose an artist who was willing to sacrifice herself."
