Ne-Yo Denies He's Gay After His Fans Believe Reports on Satirical Site
R&B singer Ne-Yo took to Twitter on Friday, June 5, to deny a recent report about his decision to come out as gay.
The Huffington Post reports that satirical news site News Buzz Daily recently published a report claiming that Ne-Yo was inspired by Caitlyn Jenner's transgender story and made the decision to come out as gay.
News Buzz Daily even quoted Ne-Yo as saying that Jenner gave him "the inner strength to admit to my kids, my family, my friends, my fans and ultimately to myself that I am gay."
According to News Buzz Daily, Ne-Yo also said that he knew he was gay as a young boy but never had the courage to tell the world.
"Watching Bruce, well Caitlyn, sit down with Dianne Sawyer on ABC really inspired me. Bruce is very brave and beautiful. As soon as he came out as transgendered, she freed herself and thats the freedom I want," News Buzz Daily wrote in a satirical piece about Ne-Yo.
Despite News Buzz Daily's disclaimer that it is a satirical news site, many social media users took the story at face value and began tweeting about Ne-Yo's coming out story, the Huffington Post reports.
This prompted the singer to send out two tweets slamming the gay rumors while showing respect to Caitlyn Jenner and the LBTQ community.
Ne-Yo also acknowledged that he has been the subject of gay rumors in the past and described the most recent News Buzz Daily gay rumor as "#sad."
Ne-Yo was subject to gay rumors in 2012 and spoke to Sister 2 Sister about his confusion over why people continue to believe that he is.
"There's so many more important and positive things going on in my life, the last thing I'm going to do is focus on somebody that's still on some ignorance with the whole gay rumor thing," he said. "If that's what y'all want to feel about me, by all means do so. Pay no attention to the fact that I got two kids and a beautiful woman at my side ... Buy the album, though."
