Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta & Narciso Rodriguez Added a Latin Elegance to the Golden Globe Awards 2014
Latin fashion designers Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Narciso Rodriguez continue to wow and dazzle with their designs, and top celebrities brought them to life on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards 2014.
Singer Taylor Swift looked "absolutely stunning" in a sophisticated red and black number by Venezuelan designer Carolina Herrera.
However, Modern Family's Julie Bowen received mixed reviews for her ruby and purple Herrera gown.
The Venezuelan-American fashion designer known for "exceptional personal style," and dressing First Ladies from Jacqueline Onassis to Michelle Obama. The New York Times referred to Herrera's designs as "elegant and worldly without ever being fussy."
Dominican designer Oscar de la Renta is another fashion guru who continues to bring grace and elegance to the red carpet.
Parks and Recreation actress/comedian Aubrey Plaza, who is of Puerto Rican and Irish and English decent, kept it "simple and feminine" in a lavender gown by de la Renta. Actress Michelle Dockery also stunned in a de la Renta gown as well.
While actress Zooey Deschanel received mixed reviews for her vintage choice of dress, some critics said: "Another win for Oscar de la Renta! The actress looked beautiful in this vintage-inspired silhouette. Bella!"
De la Renta was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. "He was trained by Cristóbal Balenciaga and Antonio Castillo, he became internationally known in the 1960s as one of the couturiers to dress Jacqueline Kennedy. An award-winning designer, he worked for Lanvin and Balmain; his eponymous fashion house continues to dress leading figures, from film stars to royalty." The beloved fashion icon is particularly known for his red carpet gowns, wedding dresses and evening wear that have a soft, Latin romantic feel.
Referred to as "a spirited 80-year-old designer" who has broken records, de la Renta appeared in "Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis" talk series last year. The fashion icon, who was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, said he isn't thinking of retiring any time soon -- "I plan to be here for a very long time."
Cuban-American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez, hasn't been around as long as Herrera or de la Renta, but he's sure made his mark on the fashion industry both here in the United States and internationally.
Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus showed off her curves in Rodriguez's halter dress.
Rodriguez is a New York City fashion designer and "one of the foremost American designers during the last two decades. As Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American magazine Vogue has said, 'No one but Narciso has ever made a simple line look more stunning.'"
"In 1996, Rodriguez received international acclaim when he designed the bias-cut sheath wedding dress that his close friend Carolyn Bessette wore when she married John F. Kennedy, Jr.
"On November 4, 2008, Rodriguez became part of a monumental event in American history. To celebrate her husband Barack Obama's triumphant victory as the first African American president of The United States, Michelle Obama chose to wear a dress from the designer's Spring 2009 Collection."
